Is Snoring Bad?

Too bad I’m tired or just a precious inheritance for both of my mother and father’s blood. It was about Snoring that my sister complained when I woke up. “Ang lakas mong humilik”, she said. I felt conscious about her rant. Well, it’s true. I remember when my father snores when I was in grade school. It’s like you’re waiting for a train. Really funny, isn’t it?

He snores like an elephant and my mother too. But my mom snores less loud and demure. They would really say, “Nasa lahi lang ‘yan.” I beg to disagree.

Let me Google and do some research about the cause, remedy and simple treatments. Somehow, let me give you my personal opinions about the issue.

Snoring is caused by a narrowing of airway, either from poor sleep posture or abnormalities of the soft tissues in your throat. A narrow airway gets in the way of smooth breathing and creates the sound of snoring. In addition, people who often have too much throat and nasal tissue, or “floppy” that is more prone to vibrate. The position of the tongue can also get in the way of smooth breathing. A sleep diary from your partner will help you determine the cause of snoring.

My opinion, I think it’s more of air passage narrowing. It’s been a week that this ‘dry cough’ or a watery throat is pestering me. I try to manage it by drinking plenty of water to dissolve the thickness of mucous. However, it’s really sticky. Gross!

Anyway, simple cures are easy to do in toning down the soprano and alto of snoring. As the old doctor’s saying, “an apple a day keeps them out of the way.”

First, find the cause, severity of the problem.

Second, sleep on your side. This is the way I sleep. It could be that I’m tired. But will check more of my snoring moments.

Third, elevate the head of your bed. Well, a pillow is enough to do that. But I’m thinking, the pillow might be too soft. It won’t really elevate my head.

Fourth, limit alcohol and medications. I haven’t been drinking ‘Red Horse, the BAR, Carlo Rossi and San Mig Light’ for almost two months. It’s not included. Hence, the drug that I was taking is only Vitamin C (a supplement). Would that affects the cause of my snoring?

Fifth, clear your nasal passages. Aha! I found the mastermind. My watery nose is the problem. Too bad, this will be discharged ASAP. Double Gross!

Lastly, lose weight. It can be one of the reasons. My tummy is getting globular and this isn’t making me smile. My twenty eight to thirty inches pants are not getting fit. This is really ridiculous. ‘Nesvita’ has been my best friend to make my diet manageable. Somehow, I need to exercise or else, it won’t be effective.

Worst, Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), Thermal Ablation Palatoplasty (TAP), tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy would be the last resort. In my opinion, they’re invasive, expensive and exclusive.
