Yesterday, we had a discussion about the late president Corazon Aquino. We talked about her achievements, modesty and leadership style. Our professor in Journalism, Bayani Santos Jr. gave us a brief description about her.
We must consider her as a model of a morally upright leader. The sacrifices she made are noble.
Suddenly, I shared to my professor that Filipinos are highly literate but not that educated. What is the essence of this statement?
When we say literate, means able to read and write. According to UNESCO, the Philippines has a total of 95% Youth Literacy Rate from 2000-2004. This tally proved that Filipinos are able to read and write.
How about Educated? It means possessing an education (especially having more than average knowledge. In mere sense, being educated is having a deeper understanding about the people, world and life.
In connection with our late president Cory Aquino, she is considered to be a highly educated person. Let us understand what we should understand.
Filipinos are degrading its integrity. It can be that, increasing our educative percentage would help our country to progress.
