I hate to talk about this topic: L-O-V-E, why? It makes me immature and unlearned person at all times. I might be cynic, but it’s really risky. My friend even told me, “Mabuti pa ang thesis pwedeng madepensahan e ang love, hindi.” In other words, “masasaktan ka lang sa huli.”
It only shows that love has no scientific and logical reason. However, it gives us a dogma that it’s blind and sometimes stupid. Here are some of my examples:
· Starting from an old lady’s relationship to her partner (ten years younger than her) which is somewhat a relationship of dependence in terms of financial. One has no job, while the other is a martyr.
Lesson: It is better to live alone earning the price of what you gain.
· One of my friends who still continue to love despite the money involved relationship, losing his money, using his resources for the other partner’s advantage. Although he knows it is abusive.
Lesson: no relationship, no commitment, no abuse.
· He’s sweet, he’s caring, he’s doing your projects; silly you. In return, he really means friendship.
Lesson: Don’t assume. Ask the person directly,” do you love me?”
· He loves you despite you’re always busy. In the end, he’s tired of not giving him priority.
Lesson: Relationship needs communication and time to grow. It takes two to tango.
· A relationship that was created through the foundation of sexual needs.
Lesson: There is a thin line between love and lust.
I don’t know! Someone told me, “Love adds color to our lives; it is one of the greatest gift from God.”
Even the Bible would say:
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
-- 1 Corinthians 13:13
Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy.
Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude;
It is not self-seeking, nor easily angered.
It keeps no record of wrongdoing.
It does not delight in evil,
But rejoices in the truth.
It always protects, trusts, hopes, and preserves.
There is nothing love cannot face;
There is no limit to its faith, hope, and endurance.
In a word, there are three things that last forever:
Faith, hope, and love;
But the greatest of them all is love.
-- 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
-- 1 John 3:18
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear ...
-- 1 John 4:18
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
-- 1 Peter 4:8-9
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.
-- Corinthians 13:7-8
Two are better than one.
-- Ecclesiastes 4:9
In the end: If your interest is not in the other person as such, but rather in how that person can enhance your experience of life, then it is not unconditional. If you have no intention of improving that person’s life, or allowing that person to be themselves and accepting them as they are, and not who you want them to be, then you are not striving to love them unconditionally. - An excerpt from How to Love edited by Keith Taylor and 153 others.
